The Problem With Over Creating

We all have limited time to consume the writing, artwork, internet content or even television content of a creator.

My particular problem is with producing more digital paintings than I can reasonably display or that I can expect a normal follower to view without overwhelm. But all my recent paintings are available for fans on my website.

If I posted every image I create individually to facebook and I put myself into the shoes of my followers, I would certainly unfollow myself. Even limiting my posts I have surely caused many friends to unfollow my feed. I recently unfollowed one friend’s facebook feed (they posted 8 times in one hour). I made the mistake of letting them know I had done so. They reacted by un-friending me on facebook and blocking me from their Instagram feed as well. I still wanted to stay connected but they didn’t understand my objective to move their posting to a lower priority. There is a see first setting, I would have liked to have a see last or lower priority option rather than unfollowing them. There may have been an better solution that I did not recognize. I certainly learned to be less frank with sensitive people.

I produce about 40 to 50 new paintings every week. My solution to giving people some idea of what I am up to without clogging their feed is to sometimes post a collage of the day or of the week in a single post.

Occasionally I get carried away and post several times to facebook or instagram per day.

Marketing types advise posting more often even to the point of repeating the same content over and over. But that approach turns me off and probably turns off all but my most avid fans.

I continually update the new days paintings to the Weekly gallery that my website visitors see when visiting www.risingrims.com.

But I guess I need to view this, not as a problem, but as an opportunity to select my best images to share.
